So I come from a very male dominated industry. Many find it funny when they hear that I sell fish for a living. Yes- I am in the seafood industry. When I am on a plane and someone asks me what I do for a living they are always shocked by the response. Well, someone has to put Omega 3's on your plate :) The industry can be a tough group- attire for example- I am told that black and blue is best as you need to blend in to the crowd (especially at a conference) and not get too noticed. I have gone back and forth thru-out my 13 year career of abiding and not abiding by these rules. I can tell you that when I have not kept it conservative I have gotten "spoke to." It is the worst! In my younger years I did not stand up for myself because maybe the items were not best choices and I was young- so what did I know? This year I wore what I believe was a very cute outfit but was told that people did not appreciate the style as much as I did. One friend put it perfectly- "Tara, I think it might be too fashion forward for the seafood industry."
Take this outfit for example, I believe its a nice blend of fashion and "business"- Fun and sophisticated-stand out while keeping it conservative. What do you think? Totally loving my necklace I was sent from Rocksbox! Check out my last post about my first delivery. You can get a month free using the code PALEOWITHSTYLEX0X0
When wearing business attire you want to feel good about yourself- you want to show that you are confident. My advice is to not wear anything you feel you are not comfortable in. Whether it is something too tight, too short, too long, too lose. You want to be your best self by simply being yourself.
This simple outfit makes me feel just that and I am sure there are other ensembles I wear will be judged to the fullest. Hell, I don't know if I will be judged for this one. You can never go wrong with a pencil skirt- If you find a pencil skirt that you absolutely love do not let go of it! They have been around for years. You will always find yourself needing a pencil skirt. I have had this one for years and its one of my favorites. This silky tank comes in several colors from Banana Republic (I am wearing an XS). It is thicker than you may think which is something I really like about it. You can not see every little thing on your body- but please do not wear a laced bra it! My pumps from Sam Edelman are my go to comfortable/sexy pumps these days. I can not get enough of them. Scroll below to get this look. I have also adding other pencil skirts and tops on the bottom of this post.
